Diamondback is located just west of the Abilene Municipal Airport on the southeast side of town.

The layout has a little bit of everything - elevation changes, dog legs, creeks and ravines, and cactus spines in the roughs. The course cruises over rolling hills in a natural setting without homes or development along the holes and is lightly bunkered with water on 6 holes The fairways vary from narrow to open with the wind almost always a factor and the greens are soft and hold well with a moderate amount of undulation. It plays to 6,977 yards from the tips, 74.7/136, course/slope ratings with three shorter tees, designed by Charles Coody and George Williams in 1999.
