Indiana's northern region along Lake Michigan uniquely features sand dunes on the 41-mile lake shoreline. This area merges into slightly rolling farmland to the south ending up in the Knobs on the southern border along the Ohio River. It's known for a highly industrialized northwest corner around Gary, the middle agricultural belt encircling Indianapolis, its Motor Speedway, and Indiana, Purdue and Notre Dame Universities, and the limestone quarries and mineral springs of French Lick to the south.
The best public golf courses in Indiana are a microcosm of the state itself with The Brickyard Golf Course in Indianapolis in the middle of the Motor Speedway, the French Lick Golf Resort Pete Dye and the Donald Ross golf courses, and the Kampen Course at Purdue and the Warren Golf Course at Notre Dame which are two of the top collegiate golf courses in the country.
