The Alpena Golf Club is on the north side of Alpena, off US 23 to the west on Golf Course Road.

The golf course is a tale of two nines. The front side, from the 1930s, is a classic route along fairways defined by mature hardwoods with ample landing zones but modest greens. The back is an updated design and 400 yards longer as it traverses pond-studded, rolling fairways lined by trees with generous green complexes. It plays to 6,459 yards, 70.0/121 course/slope ratings off the tips with two shorter tees, with the backside designed by Warner Bowen.
