Anaconda Hills is north of Great Falls on the north side of the Missouri River. The course was originally a 9 hole, employee course for the Anaconda Smelter Company but the city purchased it in the 1970s and eventually added a new nine.

The golf course is a hilly layout with contrasting nines. The front is tree lined along narrow fairways with modest greens while the back is over hills, ravines, and water hazards and is more wide open and less penal with larger, contoured greens. It was designed by William H. Neff and plays to 5,666 yards from the tips, 67.3/106, course/slope ratings with three shorter tees.
