Apple Valley is 10 miles northeast of Mount Vernon on the west side of Apple Valley Lake ambling through mostly natural borders with homes along a few of the exterior holes.

The golf course is an interesting layout located in the rolling hills of Central Ohio with scattered trees along a combination of broad and narrow, fairways. There's four ponds impacting play, several slight doglegs, and sand bunkers defending the occasional fairway and most of the generous greens. It plays to 6,946 yards, 72.4/122, course/slope ratings from the tips with three shorter sets of tees, and was designed by William Newcomb in 1971.
