Gamble Sands is located just outside Brewster on the banks of the Columbia River.
The layout, built on a sand base as are traditional links courses, is a wide ranging design with firm and fast, broad fairways bordered by natural areas, sage, desert brush, waste and conventional sand bunkers. It's a natural setting with stunning views out across the Columbia River without homes, roads, and cart paths to interrupt the scenery. The greens are large, sloped and contoured, and well protected by sand bunkers. There's five sets of tees overall, the tips play to 7,169 yards, 74.2/128, course/slope ratings, with the middle tees at 6,207 yards, 69.7/118. It was designed by David McLay Kidd, who's known for designing Bandon Dunes, The Castle Course at St. Andrews, Scotland, and Tetherow, among others.
The Quicksands course is a 14 hole short course on a 25 acre tract of tumbling sand dunes and was designed by Kidd as well with holes ranging from 60 to 160 yards. The holes will range from 60 to 160 yards and have been named Plinko, Boomerang, Crater, and Corkscrew among other to foreshadow the hole's challenge.
