Golden Sands is northwest of Shawano Lake over a large, natural tract of land with homes along a few of the fairways.

The golf course is a parkland design with evergreen and young oak tree-lined fairways over slightly rolling land. Ponds, lakes, and streams are in play on multiple holes, and a modest number of sand traps are generally positioned around the ample greens. Homer Fieldhouse designed the course, which has five sets of tees overall, with the tips playing to 6,148 yards, 69.2/117, course/slope ratings.
