The Golf Club of West Virginia is on the east side of Parkersburg off I-77 at the Emerson Ave/Rt 2 exit.

The layout is in a natural setting in a clearing in the woods without housing or development along the course. It's a parkland-style design over hilly terrain along broad and narrow, tree-lined fairways with several water hazards and sand bunkers guarding many of the greens. It's not all that long, at just 6,048 yards from the tips, par 70, 68.9/116, course/slope ratings with two shorter tees.
