Green Hills is on the northeast side of Mount Vernon, just north of the airport on Fairfield Road.

The layout is a parkland design with two distinct nines. The original layout from the 1920s moves along narrow, tree-lined corridors with small sand bunkers guarding the modest greens. The "new" nine from the 1970s has a modern feel along broad fairways with a heavy emphasis on various sizes and shapes of sand traps along the fairways and guarding the greens. There's a small creek cutting across the original layout and scattered ponds and lakes in play on both sides. It plays to 6,490 yards from the tips, 72.2/127, course/slope ratings, and two shorter tees with the original nine designed by Arnold Hertenstin and the new nine by Gary Kern.
