Headwaters Golf Club is in Park Rapids, on the east side of Fishhook Lake, in far northern Minnesota, about two hours east of Fargo. It is near the headwaters of the Mississippi River at Lake Itasca.

The course layout is mostly parkland style, with a blend of broad and narrow, tree-lined fairways for a good change of pace. It's an interesting and varied layout with water hazards, doglegs, sand traps, rolling hills, and trees constantly a factor. From the back tees, it's 6,573 yards 71.3/123, course/slope ratings with five shorter tees.
