Heron Lakes is just north of downtown Portland, along the Columbia River's lowland. It has two 18-hole layouts designed by Robert Trent Jones II.

The Great Blue Course is mostly an open, links-style layout along broad, mounded fairways with tall fescue grasses at the margins. There are water hazards in play on 11 holes, including two forced carries on par 3s, a generous amount of sand bunkers, and generally modest greens. It is challenging at 6,902 yards, 74.0/139, course/slope ratings from the tips with three shorter tees. The Greenback course is a parkland layout journeying along undulating, tree-lined fairways with six ponds and 86 sand bunkers protecting the landing zones and greens. It will play to 6,615 yards from the tips, 72.0/128, course/slope ratings with two shorter tees.
