Hickory Sticks is on the south side of Van Wert in the country on relatively level former farmland.

The golf course is a parkland-style design along old-growth, tree-lined fairways. with Town Creek traversing the course and a few ponds with 25 sand traps. It was designed by William Spear and plays to 6,550 yards from the White tees, 70.8/118, course/slope ratings with five sets of tees overall.
