Highland Oaks is between Vermillion and Sioux City on the south side of the Missouri River in Ponca.

The golf course is a 9-hole layout carved through a forest on a bluff overlooking the River. It's generally straightforward, with trees defining the fairways, one water hazard, and several sand bunkers. For 18 holes, the course will play to 6,240 yards at the tips, 69.0/108 course/slope ratings, and two shorter tees.
