The Highlands Golf Course is on the north side of Franklin in the Potomac Valley, midway between Harrisonburg and Elkins.

The golf course moves over a scenic setting between mountain ridges and a slight valley. It's a hilly, parkland layout with a mix of narrow and open, tree-lined fairways, several holes with water hazards, and sand bunkers through the fairways and defending the quick, undulating, and tiered greens. From the tips, the course plays to 6,796 yards, 73.7/144 course/slope ratings with three shorter tees, designed by Bill Ward.
