Hilo Municipal is a low-key golf course popular with local players. It features stunning, scenic views of Hilo Bay but lacks the upscale layout and facilities.

The course is a mostly flat, parkland-style layout without sand bunkers, along tall stands of eucalyptus trees, flowering monkeypods, weeping banyan trees, and coconut palms bordered fairways. From the back tees, it plays to 6,325 yards, par 71, 70.4/121, course/slope ratings with two shorter tees, designed by Willard Wilkinson in the 1950s.
