Hilo Municipal is a a low-key golf course popular with local players featuring stunning, scenic views of Hilo Bay, but lacking the upscale layout and facilities.

The course is a mostly flat, parkland style layout without sand bunkers along tall stands of eucalyptus trees, flowering monkeypods, weeping banyan trees, and coconut palms bordered fairways. From the back tees the course plays to 6,325 yards, par 71, 70.4/121, course/slope ratings with two shorter tees, designed by Willard Wilkinson in the 1950s.
