The John Day Golf Club is west of John Day on US 26 on the south side of the John Day River near the Painted Hills and the Fossil Beds National Monument.

It's a rudimentary, 9 hole layout with a setting and the lack of any nearby golf courses which far outweigh the quality of the course. It's set upon a ridge overlooking the River valley and traverses Buffalo grass fairways lined with trees leading to modest, circular greens with four sand traps and one water hazard overall. It's a short, 2,930 yards, 33.6/111, course/slope ratings off the back tees with one shorter tee box.
