Kern River is a county operated course on the northeast side of Bakersfield off Kern Canyon Road to the north.

The golf course is a parkland layout journeying over hilly terrain overlooking the Kern River and Lake Ming in the Kern River County Park with the Southern Sierra Nevada Mountains in the distance. There's three sets of tees with the middle tees at 6,258 yards, par 70, 69.6/118, course/slope ratings, designed by William F. Bell in 1953.
