Lane Tree is located within a small residential community, just north of Goldsboro off I-795 at exit 22 to the west on the north side of the Little River.

The layout is interesting, with a mix of open and tree-lined fairways over a slight elevation change. There are five holes along the River, numerous lakes, ponds, and wetlands in play, and fingered sand bunkers defending the greens. It was designed by John LaFoy, and from the back tees, it can play to 7,016 yards, 73.3/134 course/slope ratings with three shorter tee boxes.
