Leatherstocking is on the west side of Otsego Lake, north of downtown Cooperstown.

The course has a traditional layout and is most scenic as it moves along the western shore of the Lake through tree-lined fairways over generally level terrain. There are minor streams and a small lake in play in addition to an assortment of shapes and styles of sand bunkers occasionally at the landing zones, but mostly around the modest, raised greens. It's 6,401 yards, 71.0/133, course/slope ratings from the tips with two shorter tees, originally designed in 1909 by Devereaux Emmet with redesign work by Bob Cupp.
