Montauk Downs is part of the New York State Park System and located at the end of Long Island in Montauk between the Atlantic and Gardiners Bay.

The golf course wanders through a park-like setting along tree lined corridors over slightly mounded fairways with wind a constant factor. It's well defended with ponds, wetlands, natural areas, and sand bunkers along the fairways and greens of varying configurations. The course plays to 6,976 yards, 73.3/135, course/slope from the tips with two shorter tees. It was originally designed by English golf architect Capt H.C. Tippet and possibly Scot C.B. McDonald, and redesigned in the 1960s by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. and a later update by his son Rees Jones.
