Northwood Hills is on the northwest side of Shreveport off Old Mooringsport Road in a natural, forested setting save for homes bordering a few of the exterior fairways and those looped around the community.

The layout rambles along oak tree, studded fairways over level terrain with a large lake and multiple ponds in play on just over half the holes. It features an interesting mix of holes along gentle doglegs with sand bunkers defending many of the green complexes. There's four sets of tees overall with the back tees playing to 6,805 yards, 72.8/126, course/slope ratings,designed in stages by Robert Funk and Jeff Brauer.
