Occano is about 20 minutes from Edenton in Merry Hill on North Carolina's Inner Banks. It moves through a resort/residential community on the windy Albemarle Sound, with Salmon Creek traversing the layout.

The golf course presents a blend of wide-open and tree-lined fairways over slightly undulating terrain with its share of strategic risk/reward opportunities as it winds through the community. The fescue lined fairways and landing zones are ample off the tee, however there's a generous amount of sand bunkers and water hazards in play throughout with ample, undulating and contoured greens. There's a fair golf course here for all levels of players with six sets of tees from 5,330 yards to 7,262 yards, the middle tees play to 6,445 yards, 71.1/127, course/slope ratings, designed by Arnold Palmer with a redesign by Brandon Johnson.
