Old American is on the north side of Dallas in The Colony and is a sister course to the Tribute located 1/2 mile away. Old American's design is a nod toward the classic American golf courses designed by the master architects including Donald Ross, C.B. McDonald, Perry Maxwell, Toomey & Flynn, etc.

The golf course is a challenging layout feeling links-style for the most part along primarily natural contours. There's a variety of bunker styles and sizes with tall fescue lining the broad fairways and green complexes of varying shapes and styles. It's a scenic setting as it journeys around Lake Lewisville, and without any natural barriers the wind's usually a major factor. It was designed by Tripp Davis and Justin Leonard and plays to a par 71 at 6,920 yards 74.5/141, course/slope ratings from the tips with four shorter tees.
