Painted Woods is in a scenic, natural setting on the bottom land of Painted Woods Creek on the south side of Washburn, 45 minutes north of Bismarck.

The original nine holes are challenging as they wind through fairway corridors dotted with trees along the traversing Painted Woods Creek, with water in play on most holes. The new nine features a more open layout on the east side of the Creek, with tall prairie grasses lining the fairways and water in play on just four holes. It's 6,906 yards off the tips, 72.4/119, course/slope ratings with three shorter tees.
