Piney Point is on the west side of Lake Tillery, 20 minutes south of Abermarle, off US 52.

The routing is parkland-style, winding along narrow, pine-tree-lined fairways over land with a slight change in elevation. The layout has substantial character, with dog legs requiring placement off the tee, forced carries, OB, water hazards, and well-defended, modest, raised greens. There are five sets of tees overall, and it's 5,929 yards, 68.8/116, course/slope ratings from the middle tes, designed by Porter Gibson in the mid-1960s.
