Poplar Grove is north of Lynchburg in Amherst off US 29 to the east chiseled through the forests and hills in a natural setting.

The golf course is a stellar layout in a remote and scenic setting in the foothills, and challenging with tree lined fairways over rolling hills where accuracy and length are essential. Several large lakes and Higginbotham Creek defend the northwestern third of the golf course along with an abundance of large fingered sand bunkers guarding the greens and fairways. It can play to 7,059 yards from the tips, 75.0/141, course/slope ratings with four other tees, and was designed by Ed Carton along with Sam Snead.
