Red Tail is northwest of Boston in Devens off the I-495 at MA 2 to the west on the site of the former U.S. Army Fort Devens.

The course lumbers over rolling, wooded terrain and along numerous streams and ponds with most of the tree-lined fairways bordered by tall grasses at the margins. It's a strategic layout loaded with fairway, greenside sand bunkers, and long waste bunkers at the landing zones and defending the greens. The holes are appropriately named: #11 is named Gravel Pit, a dramatic par 3, and #16, the "Willies," is for the feeling one gets when standing on the tee. From the back tees, the course plays to 7,006 yards, 72.7/135, course/slope ratings with four shorter tees, a Brian Silva design.
