Sierra del Rio is part of the Turtleback Mountain Resort residential community in Elephant Butte 5 minutes off I-25 at exit 79 in Truth at Consequences.

The course has a desert-style layout over hilly/rocky land at the base of Turtleback Mountain, and scenic views are present throughout. There's a generous amount of sand bunkers, especially around the greens and water, in play on four holes, with each hole isolated and unique. It was designed by Dick Phelps with five tees from 5,800 yards to 7,331 yards, 74.6/140, course/slope ratings at the tips.
