The Silvies Ranch Golf Course is 168 miles due east of Bend midway between Burns and John Day in the Silvies working cattle ranch.
Golf at Silvies was designed by Dan Hixson and features two 18 hole routings built on a large tract of rolling ranchland with 16 fairways and 27 greens which are reversible daily in addition to a 9-hole, par 3 layout, the Chief Egan, and of course the renowned goat caddies. The Hankins and Craddock layouts journey through the rolling meadows of the ranch along streams originated by the Ochoco, Strawberry, and Aldrich mountains with 200 feet of elevation change overall. The layouts feature broad fairways with sagebrush and tall native grasses at the margins bordered by Ponderosa pines, Aspens, Willows, and Junipers.
There's also McVeigh’s Gauntlet Course, a 7-hole challenge layout with a variety of par 3s and 4s carved into a razor back ridge providing a few more holes if you're not up for another round and/or is appropriate for settling a final wager.
