Spooner is in northwest Wisconsin near the Minnesota border on Spooner Lake about an hour and a half north of Eau Claire.

It's a traditional layout from the 1930s winding through a parkland setting along narrow, tree lined fairways with six water hazards, a modest amount of sand bunkers, and small greens. It's 6,458 yards, 71.2/129, course/slope ratings from the back tees with three shorter tees with the front nine designed by Tom Vardon, Harry's brother and Dr. Gordon Emerson adding the back in 1980.
