The Dunes at Maui Lani are just south of Kahului on the Kuihelani Highway, which partially borders a residential community.

The layout is of a minimalist design over the existing dune complexes and lay of the land. It's similar to the classic natural links courses of the British Isles with 9 holes out and nine holes back in, but contrary to links design, the fairways are bordered by native trees and multiple water features. It was designed by Robin Nelson, and from the back, the tees are 6,841 yards, 74.1/141, course/slope ratings with three shorter tees.
