Wawashkamo is a 9 hole golf course on Mackinac Island on the north side of the Island Airport. It's an historic design by Alex Smith in 1898, a two time British Open winner from Carnoustie, and is the longest continuing operating course in the state.
While it's 9 holes, there's two loops of the same nine from alternate tees which provides a different look the second time around. The course journeys over a farmer's field which was the site of the 1814 Battle of Mackinac Island and is a wide open, links style layout over level land carved our of a clearing in the deep woods. The name of the club and course comes from the Anishinaabe word for the act of "walking a crooked trail." From the back tees it's 6,012 yards, 69.5/118, course/slope ratings for 18 holes.
