Windmill Lakes is located seven miles from the intersection of SR 14 and the Ohio Turnpike about 16 miles from downtown Akron and 30 miles from Cleveland and is the home course for Kent State University.

The golf course is a parkland layout traversing long and narrow, tree lined fairways with lakes as the dominant theme. It's generally straightforward with sand bunkers defending the occasional fairway and all of the undulating and sloping, greens. It can play to 6,936 from the tips and a par of 70, 73.8/128, course/slope ratings with five shorter tees, designed by Ed Ault.
