Amana Colonies is 20 miles southwest of Cedar Rapids, where German immigrants settled in a "colony" of isolation from the rest of the world.

The golf course is a parkland-style layout traversing rolling fairways carved through deep woods of white oak trees. It's generally straightforward, save for several doglegs, with numerous water features and sand traps defending the greens and the occasional fairway. It's a challenging layout, though, at 6,824 yards from the tips, 72.8/142 course/slope ratings with four shorter tees, designed by Jim Spear in 1989.
