Amelia Island is a resort on the Atlantic coast 30 minutes north of Jacksonville with two 18 hole championship golf courses.
The Pete Dye-designed Oak Marsh Course has all the Dye design elements. The course traverses dunes, marshland, and forests, with water hazards, sand bunkers, and trees as the primary defenses. There are fourteen holes with water hazards, a number of bulk-headed greens, and every shape and size of sand bunker imaginable defending the fairways and greens. It can play to 6,607 yards, 72.4/134 course/slope ratings, with three shorter tees.
Long Point has a couple of back-to-back par 3s along the Atlantic, with the balance of the layout along narrow corridors through the dunes, forests, and wetlands of the Amelia River. There are water hazards on eight holes, and fairways are lined by natural waste areas. It was designed by Tom Fazio in 1987. From the back tees, it is 6,567 yards, 72.2/136, course/slope ratings, with three shorter tees.
There's also a par 3 short course, the 10-hole Little Sandy along Red Maple Lake, designed by Beau Welling with an island green finish.
