The Barefoot Resort golf courses are four 18-hole championship golf courses located 16 miles north of the Myrtle Beach Airport off North Kings Highway.
The Davis Love III design is through a former plantation with seven lakes and wetlands on almost every hole, rendering course management essential. There's some elevation change, at least for the Myrtle Beach area, with several traditional holes through pine and hardwood tree stands. The greens are ample and raised, with mounded grass collection areas catching the slightly errant shots. The course plays to 7,047 yards, 75.1/139, course/slope ratings from the tips with four shorter tees.
The Norman course may be the most playable of all the courses at Barefoot. It provides ample landing zones off the tee with various conventional and waste bunkers along the fairways and greens plus water in play on seven of the holes. There's some elevation change to a couple of holes on the backside and a few scenic holes along the Intracoastal Waterway, but otherwise, it's a fairly routine MB layout. There's five sets of tees from 4,864 yards to 6,888 yards, the middle tees are at 5,589 yards, 67.2/115, course/slope ratings.
The Fazio course is a challenging, entertaining, and scenic layout for the full 18 holes. The entire course is framed by a variety of sand bunkers and waste areas of all shapes and sizes, yet with ample landing zones off the tee. There's a slight elevation change with water hazards on most of the holes. The front side is through a residential development, while the back nine is carved through the wooded wetlands. The course has five sets of tees, and from the tips, it plays to 6,834 yards, 73.2/145, course & slope ratings.
Barefoot Dye is a Pete Dye design with the usual design features of elaborate sand bunkering and contoured, undulating greens. It also provides varying degrees of elevation change, which is a welcomed change of pace from other courses in Myrtle Beach. The layout features water in play on 5 holes and at least 130 sand traps, including waste areas, conventional bunkers, and the Dye trademark pot bunkers along the fairways and greens. The greens are medium-sized and mild in undulation, but swales and collection areas make for challenging up and downs. The wind is always in play here since most of the course is open to the elements and is less than a mile from the Atlantic. It can play long at 7,343 yards, 76.0/146, course/slope ratings from the tips but has three shorter tees.
