Black Diamond is near Millersburg in the hills of Holmes County, a 1.5-hour drive from Cleveland and an hour from Columbus.

The course has a variety of narrow, tree-lined fairways along with wide open, links-style holes along completely natural borders without housing or development. There are varying degrees of elevation change as the fairways slope and roll, with numerous water hazards, sand bunkers along the fairways, greens, and heavy rough at the borders. The greens are of all shapes and sizes, slightly undulating, and several have tired surfaces. It was designed by Barry Serafin in 2000 and plays to 6,460 yards, 71.3/130, course/slope ratings from the tips with three shorter tees.
