The Castle Rock Golf Club, named after its namesake rock formation, is 20 miles northwest of Blacksburg in Pembroke in a scenic setting on the New River in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

The golf course is a parkland layout journeying over hilly land on a tongue in the New River. The layout is a mix of narrow and broad, tree lined fairways along numerous doglegs with water features on almost half the holes and a modest amount of sand traps which are primarily defending the greens. It's a short layout with a par of 71 at 6,096 yards from the tips, 68.3/117, course/slope ratings with two shorter tees.
