Fountain Springs is located 30 minutes east of I-77 at the Princeton exit on US 219 on the north side of Peterstown.

The golf course is an interesting parkland layout winding along tree-lined fairways with numerous ponds and wetlands, a moderate amount of sand bunkers, and greens of all shapes and sizes, including a partial island green. The fairways are generally open off the tees, and there are a few doglegs, but generally, it's very straightforward and playable as it moves through a scenic setting in a valley of the Appalachians. Russell Breeden designed the golf course in the late 1990s with four sets of tees from 4,668 to 6,278 yards at the tips, 70.4/120, course/slope ratings.
