Cedar Crest is a historic municipal golf course on Illinois Avenue, south of downtown Dallas, between I-35E and I-45.
The course is over rolling land along mature, tree-lined fairways featuring numerous slight doglegs. There are several water hazards, only 36 bunkers mostly guarding the greens, and the greens are small and somewhat elevated. Par is 71 with 6 par 3s and 5 par 5s, and the course measures 6,532 yards, 71.7/132, course/slope ratings from the tips with three shorter tees. The course was originally designed by the master A. W. Tillinghast, whose work included Baltusrol, Winged Foot, and possibly Bethpage. The course was initially a private club that opened in 1919 and was the site of the 1927 PGA championship won by Walter Hagen. The City of Dallas purchased Cedar Crest in 1946 and eventually hired D. A. Weibring to renovate the layout to its original design.
