Cog Hill is located just SW of Chicago along Highway 171 in Lemont. It has four—to 18-hole championship-level layouts, with #2 and #4 acknowledged as the favored layouts.
Dubsdread #4 is a shot-makers parkland layout with narrow, tree-lined landing areas, many sand bunkers along the fairways and greens, multiple water hazards, and large, undulating greens. It was once the venue for the PGA's Western Open for several years and was initially designed by Dick Wilson and Joe Lee but redesigned by the "Open Doctor" Rees Jones in 2008. There's six sets of tees overall from 5,441 yards to 7,554 yards, the white tees play to 6,382 yards, 71.9/134, course/slope ratings.
The #2 Ravines is appropriately titled as over half the holes cross ravines along tree-lined fairways over rolling terrain with numerous water hazards, sand bunkers, and small, quick, and undulating greens. There are four sets of tees overall, and the tips play to 6,837 yards, 72.7/126, course/slope, originally designed by David McIntosh and Bert Coghill in 1929 with later redesign work by Joe Lee and Rocky Roquemore.
The other courses, #1, a David McIntosh original design from 1927, with a 1963 Dick Wilson redesign, and #3, a Dick Wilson design, are both routed over similar terrain and are parkland style layouts as well and more of a valuable than #s 2 or 4.
