Exeter CC is south of the Providence area off I-95 at exit 5 to the southeast, 20 minutes west of Newport.

The layout is over rolling terrain along narrow, tree-lined fairways on a large tract of cleared land surrounded by forests. There are ponds and the Queen River in play on several holes, numerous blind shots, and sand bunkers surrounding or guarding many of the generous greens. There are three sets of tees with the tips playing to 6,921 yards, 72.1/125, and course/slope ratings, designed by Manny Fancis with additional work by Geoffrey Cornish.
