Grand Traverse Resort

The Grand Traverse Resort is a four-season resort located just east of Traverse City on Grand Traverse Bay. It has three championship layouts.

The Bear is a parkland layout with fairways defined by old growth, hardwood trees framed by the high fescue grasses, moguls, and mounding with water in play on 15 holes but only 53 sand bunkers. The contoured green complexes are protected by sand bunkers and water hazards and are quick and tiered with daunting undulations. It was designed by Jack Nicklaus and plays to 7,078 yards, 76.3/148, course/slope ratings from the tips with three shorter tees.

Wolverine's front nine saunters through a valley with water hazards and wetlands bordering the fairways and greens. At the same time, the backside moves up into the highland terrain along hardwoods and over rolling contours with views of East Grand Traverse Bay. The golf course was designed by Gary Player with four sets of tees and is 7,043 yards at the tips, 74.5/138, course/slope ratings.

Spruce Run is the most playable layout here. It journeys along fairways and greens lined by spruce and fir trees over rolling terrain that surrounds the hotel and overlooks Grand Traverse Bay. Water is in play on 13 holes. There are three sets of tees and 6,304 yards at the tips, 71.5/134 course/slope ratings, designed by William Newcomb.
