Half Moon Bay is 32 miles southwest of downtown San Francisco on the Pacific with two 18 hole championship golf courses within a Ritz Carlton resort.
The Ocean course at Half Moon Bay is a links layout with several holes fronting the Pacific Ocean. The routing features views of the Pacific from every hole and a superb set of finishing holes especially with the Ritz as the background on the 18th where often there's a bagpiper playing in the background. The layout is somewhat of a links-style design with broad fairways lined with tall fescue, a generous amount of sand bunkers, and large, contoured greens. The course plays to 6,854 yards from the tips, 71.9/131, course/slope ratings with four shorter tee boxes, designed by Arthur Hills.
The Old Course may not receive the attention as the Ocean course, but many locals prefer it, and with the signature finishing hole it's difficult to disagree. It's mostly a parkland layout with frequent water hazards and sand bunkers in play routed through a residential community with the finale on a cliff over the Pacific capping off the round. It's the original layout at HMB playing to 7,001 yards from the Black tees, 75.2/135, course/slope ratings with four shorter tees, designed by Arnold Palmer.
