Hanging Rock is on the north side of Roanoke in Salem at exit 40 at I-81 then north.

The layout is along hilly and sloping, broad fairways defined by old growth hardwood trees with sand bunkers primarily greenside and a pond and a stream impacting play on several holes. There are four sets of tees from 6,828 yards down to 4,463 yards with the white tees at 6,222 yards, 69.5/120, course/slope ratings, designed by Russell Breeden in the early 1990s.
