Hickory Knob is carved through a pine forest along the north side of the Savannah River between Augusta and Anderson in the Hickory Knob State Park.

The course is a challenging parkland-style layout with a mix of narrow and broad, tree-lined fairways, including a half-dozen along Lake Thurmond, in a completely natural setting. Designed by Tom Jackson, it plays to 6,560 yards from the tips, with 71.9/132 course/slope ratings and three shorter tees.
