Highland Park is located just east of downtown Birmingham off US 290 at University and Highland.

The course originally opened in 1903 as the Birmingham Country Club, and was the site of one of Bobby Jones early golf tournament wins. The compact layout's hilly fairways are bordered by old growth, hardwood trees where accuracy is required both off the tee and on approach to the greens. Every hole features elevation changes, a sprinkling of sand bunkers, and water hazards on multiple holes. The greens are small, fast, a bit elevated, and slightly undulating, many of which are defended by deep faced sand bunkers. It's a rather short course at 5,801 yards, 67.4/123, course/slope ratings from the tips with two shorter tees, redesigned in 1998 by Bob Cupp.
