Kalona is about 30 minutes southwest of Iowa City on the south side of the small farming community of Kalona.

The golf course is a quaint, 9 hole parkland layout originally opening in the late 1920s on former farmland. The course was designed by a group of locals with some sense of golf course design, and included a chiropractor, a barber, and an undertaker. The course prospered for years with sand greens until the mid-1980s when they were replaced by bent grass and the course redesigned by Edward Lockie. It's a basic layout along tree lined fairways over rolling terrain with several doglegs, a few water hazards including forced carries, but no sand bunkers, and small, oval shaped greens. For 18 holes it will play to a par of 72 at 5,978 yards, 68.6/124, course/slope ratings with three shorter tees.
