Lake of the Woods is 15 minutes northwest of Champaign off exit 174 of I-74. It has an 18-hole, championship-level layout and a 9-hole, par-3 course.

The main course is a parkland design lumbering over the rolling contours of the Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve with homes on only a few holes. The fairways are lined with trees, five ponds, and a generous amount of sand traps bordering the fairways and defending the greens. There are four sets of tees from 5,070 yards to 6,578 yards at the tips; the white tees play to 6,214 yards, 69.5/120, course/slope ratings, designed by Robert Harris.
