Makray is located in the northwest Chicago suburb of Barrington on Northwest Highway near the Deer Grove Forest Preserve.

The golf course is a parkland-style layout along tree-lined fairways over level terrain. Water is in play on over half the holes, and an abundance of sand traps defend the fairways and modest greens, providing numerous risk/reward opportunities. It was designed by Harry Vignocchi and plays to 6,903 yards from the black tees, with 74.5/139 course/slope ratings and three shorter tees.
