Makray is located in the northwest Chicago suburb of Barrington on Northwest Highway near the Deer Grove Forest Preserve.

The golf course is a parkland style layout along tree lined fairways over level terrain. There's water in play on over half the holes with an abundance of sand traps both defending the fairways and modest greens providing numerous risk/reward opportunities. It was designed by Harry Vignocchi and plays to 6,903 yards from the black tees, 74.5/139, course/slope ratings with three shorter tees.
